AMERSHAM Town put up spirited resistance but eventually went down to rampant league leaders Harpenden.
The Magpies must have had their confidence shaken by a 7-1 hammering at league newcomers Southall three days before they travelled to Hertfordshire.
A brace from James Ewington cancelled out a David O'Connor strike for Amersham to hand Harpenden the points.
Chesham United Reserves faced a similarly tough Spartan South Midlands Division One trip to high-flying London Lions and went down to a heavy 5-0 loss while Holmer Green lost 2-1 at St Margaretsbury in the Premier Division.
