Thomas: 'Time to perform'

Chesham United striker Simon Thomas

CHESHAM United striker Simon Thomas says the club are ready to prove why the club deserves promotion when they face AFC Totton.

Chesham travel to Hampshire tonight to face the Stags in their play-off semi final showdown, with the winner advancing to the final on bank holiday Monday.

The Generals suffered final day disappointment at Leamington last weekend but other Evo-Stik Premier results went their way to set up their tie with Totton.

And United top scorer Thomas is confident his side can bounce back from the defeat in the end of season lottery.

“We’re delighted to be in the play-offs,” he said. “It was a bit disappointing to lose at Leamington on Saturday but we’ve worked hard all season and luckily we managed to squeeze into the top-five.

“I feel that we’ve got to learn from the Leamington defeat. We’ve got to learn to be stronger and defend better from the front all the way back.”

Thomas insists he thrives on the pressure of situations like the play-offs and has called on his Generals team-mates to make show their quality against the Stags.

He added: “We’ve got to go into away games with the right kind of attitude and put pressure on ourselves to get results. At the end of the day it’s all about momentum and we’re delighted to be in there, we deserve to be in there and it’s now up to us to perform on the day.”
