Amersham Town 1-4 Cockfosters
A HOME hammering saw Amersham Town slip back into the Spartan South Mids Division One relegation zone.
Chris Miller thought his side had turned a corner after they kicked off 2011 with a win at Welwyn Garden City last weekend.
But they crumbled in a six-pointer against Cockfosters as the east-Londoners left Spratleys Meadow with the vital spoils.
The Magpies shot themselves in the foot from the outset and and were 4-0 down after only 23 minutes.
The visitors took the lead on eight minutes through Dave Pidgen with Anton Lewis doubling their advantage three minutes later.
Town goalkeeper Craig Garrett could do nothing to stop the third in 18 minutes when Lorenzo Ferrari unleashed an unstoppable 25-yard effort into the top corner and the game was over as a contest five minutes later when John Christian tapped in.
Amersham did bag a consolation goal on 27 minutes through Dominic Parella but failed to spark a home rally.
