Burnham Ramblers 0-3 Chesham Utd

GOALS from Leon Archer, Richard Bartley and Chris Bangura helped Chesham United avoid becoming an FA Cup scalp on Saturday.

The Generals continued their stunning early season form with a comfortable victory over Essex Senior Premier Division opponents Burnham in the first qualifying round.

Skipper Danny Talbot missed the chance to make it three penalties in three games when he missed his spot-kick in the first-half but it did not cost Andy Leese's side as they cantered into the next round.

The United boss named an unchanged side and nearly took an early lead when Gabriel Fanibuyan screwed a shot wide on 10 minutes before Talbot saw his penalty saved by Ramblers stopper Matt Belcher on the half hour.

But the visitors took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Fanibuyan released Archer who stabbed the ball past a hesitant Belcher for his first goal of the season.

The tie was effectively killed off a minute after the restart when Bartley powerfully headed in a Talbot corner with Archer and Steve Wales wasting chances to extend their lead soon after before Bangura headed in to make it 3-0 on 60 minutes.

Burnham showed why they have made such a good start to the season themselves and continued trying to play their football.

And they nearly pulled one back on 71 minutes when Michael Fox pounced on a loose ball in the box but crashed his shot against the post.

But Chesham were good value for their win and £3,000 prize money and have now kept six clean sheets in six of their first eight league and cup games.
