ANDY Leese has apologised on behalf of Chesham United for the mass brawl that marred their weekend friendly with Hendon held in memory of a late club stalwart.

The weekend clash exploded on 60 minutes when a 21-man fight ended with Steve Obeng dismissed for the Generals and Kevin McLaren and Casey McLaren sent-off for the Greens.

The game was the first-ever annual David Stanley Memorial Trophy, named in honour of a former secretary of both clubs who died in June.

Leese said: "It was an insult to David Stanley's memory and I want to apologise on behalf of all the Chesham players, staff and management about what happened.

"I think the players of both Chesham and Hendon need to take a long hard look at themselves and how they behaved on Saturday."

The Generals went on to win the game 1-0 and head to Aylesbury FC tonight for their final pre-season friendly.

Leese said: "We will be protecting some players because the last thing we want is to pick up any unnecessary injuries or niggles."
