AMERSHAM Swimming Club boosted their hopes of again reaching the national finals of the Arena Swimming League with a first round win – beating Bracknell and Wokingham SC by a convincing 20 points.
Last season, the club reached the B Final at Pond’s Forge in Sheffield, and finished sixth overall, beating many much larger big city clubs on the way.
That was the first time Amersham SC had got so far in a national competition and even caught the notice and support of Cheryl Gillan MP.
It was a proud day for all involved in the club and a great experience for the swimmers who found themselves in the pool with GB team members such as Fran Halsall, Joe Jackson and Michael Rock.
If the nerves were there on Saturday they did not show in the pool – gaining 21 personal bests in
the individual races, and they were rewarded with 17 first places in the individual and relay events.
These together with numerous top three finishes meant that Amersham were quickly in the lead and although joined for a while by Bracknell, they eventually triumphed.
