THERE was jubilation for Nick Joy as he overcame a four-shot deficit to scoop the top prize of the Men’s Scratch Singles at Hazlemere Golf Club’s annual Knockout Finals Day.
Joy took on friend and previous club champion Adam Batty in the final encounter, with a putt from the edge of the 18th green good enough to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
The 22-year-old struggled on the front nine as he tried to acclimatise to the pacey greens and blustery winds, but he came back from being four behind after getting his game under control.
It was a significant win for Joy, a member of 12 years, as this was the second time he has appeared in the final round.
His first taste of the finals day never really started as he broke his collarbone and had to forfeit the chance to collect the accolade.
He said: “It was a shame when I broke my collarbone as it forced me out of the final round, but this victory certainly makes up for that.”
