Bucks CC suffer Minor Counties Trophy defeat

Minor Counties Trophy Bucks 163 all out Devon 70-0 (14 overs) Devon win by 43 runs D/L method

BUCKS CC suffered their fourth straight defeat in the Minor Counties Trophy when they lost their rain-ruined match at Tring Park on Sunday.

After managing only 163 when choosing to bat first, Bucks could not contain the Devon openers who raced to 70-0 from 14 overs before rain ended play.

Devon won on the Duckworth/Lewis method to top their qualifying group, while disappointing Bucks were bottom.

Bucks seemed set for a healthy total when reaching to 110-2 in the 22nd over.

But the dismissal of Jamie Benning began a collapse that saw the last eight wickets fall for 53 runs.

Their cause was not helped by the two needless run outs of David Cranfield-Thompson and skipper Jason Harrison.

Opener Matt Eyles, who was involved in both of these, provided the main resistance, scoring 66 off 79 balls including two sixes. But Bucks committed the ultimate limited overs sin of not batting out their overs.

Devon openers Robert Woodman and James Burke made the most of free-scoring conditions to set their side on course for victory before the rain intervened.
