CHESHAM United's second-string slumped to defeat in their first game at step six of the football pyramid.

The Generals' reserve side entered the Spartan South Midlands League this season and travelled to east London to take on an experienced Cockfosters side who have spent the past three seasons in Division One.

Steve Benitez's side held their own in a tight first-half but the home side took control after the break and took the lead on 65 minutes through Dan Jones.

They sealed their opening day victory seven minutes from time when Dave Pidgen netted from close range.
