GARETH Ainsworth has been appointed caretaker manager at Wycombe Wanderers after Gary Waddock was sacked on Saturday.
The 39-year-old will lead the team as the club sifts through applications from 'high-calibre' managers interested in the Adams Park role with current assistant boss Richard Dobson continuing in his position.
Wanderers made the move to axe Waddock after a 1-0 home defeat to AFC Wimbledon and a dreadful start to their League Two campaign.
Joint-chairman Don Woodward told the club's website: "As we said on Saturday, I would like to thank Gary for his efforts and wish him every success for the future but we felt it was time for a change.
"Gareth's a leader and winner. He's an inspirational figure who has the full respect of everyone connected with the club and it was an easy decision to make.
"Wycombe Wanderers is a fantastic football club with a great set-up, squad and fan base so there's no surprise to us that we've received a number of applications from high-calibre managers."
Former Wycombe player Keith Scott is the favourite for the post with bookmakers while Wanderers face a crunch trip to Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday.
