Transfer blitz as Blues sign five players

Gary Doherty

WYCOMBE Wanderers have made five signings just hours after their transfer embargo was lifted.

Blues boss Gary Waddock promised excitement for fans after the Wycombe Wanderers Trust took over the club and were able to end the embargo by filing its accounts.

And he was true to his word when, just hours later, he announced five top signings ahead of pre-season training starting at their Booker base tomorrow.

Defender Gary Doherty, 34, who spent the end of last season on loan at Adams Park, 32-year-old ex-Leyton Orient midfielder Matt Spring and former Brentford winger Sam Wood, 28, all signed two-year deals today.

Pacey forward Dennis Oli, 28, has joined on an initial one-year contract, with an option for a second year, while talented teenage winger Lee Angol has signed a one-year deal after being released by Tottenham.

Waddock told the club website: “It's a good blend of youth and experience. They're a group of players that will be able to cover a number of positions and I am sure they'll strengthen the squad.”

The club also tweeted that one or two more new faces could arrive in the next few days to mark a whirlwind week for fans.
