Strevens hoping Blues can pounce on Brentford's home woes

BEN Strevens is hoping Wycombe can take advantage of Brentford’s home wobble when they travel to west London this weekend.

The Bees’ play-off push has suffered in recent weeks with Uwe Rosler’s side having won just one of their last five games at Griffin Park.

And ex-Brentford striker Strevens believes Wanderers can pile more misery on his old side with a victory on Saturday that could lift Wycombe out of the League One drop zone.

“I think their best form has been away from home this year and when they came here earlier in the season I certainly didn’t think they were a better team than us,” said the 31-year-old.

“It is going to be a tough game because they are up near the play-offs but if we play like we did at Preston last week and here against Rochdale, then we have got a good chance of getting something there.

“Hopefully we can start putting a few results together starting at Brentford. If we want to get out of the position we are in we need to start stringing some results together. Not winning one then drawing a few or losing a couple.”

Strevens is aiming to keep his place in the Blues line-up after starting back-to-back league games for Wanderers for the first time since November after being kept out of the side by recently departed on-loan Fulham striker Marcello Trotta.

He played as a left-midfielder in the defeat at Preston on January 14 – his first appearance in two months – before playing just behind striker Stuart Beavon in the home win over Rochdale last weekend.

“I spent most of the Rochdale game playing midfield and filling in holes but it is about doing a job for the team.

“I would like to get a few more goals and a few more headlines but I think the boys appreciate what I do and, as long as we are winning games, that is the most important thing.

“When Trots was playing well and scoring goals I didn’t expect to play and that was hard. But hopefully I can keep my place now.”
