DEFENSIVE steel against Championship side Crystal Palace pleased Blues boss Gary Waddock after their pre-season stalemate.
Wanderers held firm against Eagles in their first home pre-season game on Tuesday night and it was certainly a marked improvement from their defeat at non-league Braintree on Saturday.
"It was a very good workout," said Waddock. "The players trained this afternoon and we worked them hard so to go into the game and put the workrate and effort in was excellent.
"Even in training the new players are getting used to the other lads and they are getting an understanding about how each other plays so it is coming together well.
"They are a Championship side and they players they have in their squad are worth quite a bit of money and I am really pleased with the way we went about it.
"Bully did what he did best and it didn't matter which four were in front of him tonight because they were a good unit. We have done some work over the last few days on the shape and they have taken it on board."
