Opposition spotlight: Aldershot Town

Gary Waddock and Martin Kuhl lift the Conference title with Aldershot

IT IS ARGUABLY the most eagerly waited game of the season as Gary Waddock and assistant boss Martin Kuhl take their Wycombe side back to Aldershot – they club they guided to the Football League.

The pair spent two-and-a-half years at the Hampshire club and won promotion by winning the Conference title with a record 101 points and also won the Conference cup.

They quit the Recreation Ground last October to take over at Adams Park and has since raided their former club to sign Dave Winfield and Andy Sandell.

Both turned down new deals at the Shots to follow Waddock to Wycombe.

Loanee midfielder Scott Davies and goalkeeper Nikki Bull, who is third in the Shots' players appearances charts, also played at the club under Waddock and look set to take part on Saturday.

Bull may be the only former Shot to escape the fierce terrace volley but the other five will have to be prepared for the worst.

The home crowd's anger will also be fuelled by unsuccessful bids by Waddock to poach striker Marvin Morgan and midfielder Scott Donnelly, who ended up joining Swansea, this summer.

Aldershot Town

The two sides have only met twice in the league before with the last meeting being a 3-0 Wycombe win at Adams Park in April 2009.

On that day, Bull, Winfield, Sandell and Davies turned out for Aldershot while current Shots goalkeeper Jamie Young was between the sticks for the Blues.

It is easy to forget there are crucial league points for both sides up for grabs on Saturday.

Wycombe and Aldershot have both endured mixed starts to their League Two campaigns with only one win each, four draws and one defeat leaving just goal difference separating them in the table.

Both come into the game on the back of defeats.

Kevin Dillon's Aldershot lost at high-flying Port Vale while Waddock's Wycombe were stung at home by struggling Macclesfield Town.
