Gary Waddock
GARY Waddock only had one word to describe his Wycombe side's performance in the home defeat to Macclesfield; shocking.
The Blues boss was angry with the lack of desire and commitment showed by his side as they weakly surrendered their unbeaten record against the Silkmen.
Stunning goals from Colin Daniel and Tyrone Barnett in the opening 13 minutes were enough to condemn the Blues to their first loss of the season.
But it was the manner of the defeat which saw Waddock lock the players in the dressing room for 45 minutes before hitting out at them in the post-match press conference.
When asked how he would describe Wycombe's sloppy opening to the game he simply said: "Shocking.
"We have to compete in this league and you have to give everybody respect. Teams are going to compete at this level
"The two goals were excellent goals but the first part of any match is that you have to earn the right to play. Did we do that today? No.
"That starts from the first second to the last second but we didn't compete or earn the right to play. You have to graft and you have to work, which doesn't hurt anybody, and we didn't do that today."
The Wanderers chief changed to a diamond formation for the game with Kieran Murtagh and Scott Davies handed starts in place of Lewis Montrose and Gareth Ainsworth.
But he switched back to a familiar 4-4-2 at the break when Montrose and Ainsworth were brought on and Waddock admitted the gambled had not paid off.
He said: "We wanted to pass the ball better and that is why we changed the system but it certainly back-fired."
Wanderers are now without a win in five league games since their opening day victory over Morecambe at Adams Park.
"We are not playing the type of football we want to play," said Waddock. "Since the first league game it has been stop-start and have not been able to get into the stride of things.
"I know we have a good group of players and it takes time to gel. Hopefully we will click sooner rather than later because the early part of the season is nowhere near where we are looking for.
"The players are hurting badly like myself and everybody else and we need to put it right."
