Montrose: 'I have to keep working hard for my place'

Lewis Montrose

LEWIS Montrose said he can not afford to think he is safe in the Wycombe side.

The midfielder has become one of the first names on Gary Waddock's team-sheet since he returned from injury at the back end of last season.

The 21-year-old started the last six games of Wycombe's relegation season from League One and every game of this campaign so far.

But the Manchester-born former Wigan man insists he can not let himself get comfortable.

He said: "I don't feel like I am the first name on the team sheet or cemented in the first team squad.

"I have to make sure I am on my toes all the time because you are never secure and you have to earn your right in training and take your chance.

"I feel like I am improving. The manager (Gary Waddock) was a midfielder and really encourages us to get on the ball which has been good for me as a young player.

"Last season I had injuries. But I had to wait for my chance and take my opportunity and that is what I feel I have done."
