Waddock tips Phillips to shine in Premier League

GARY Waddock has tipped Matt Phillips to go on and become a Premier League star after the teenager moved to Blackpool.

The Blues chief was disappointed to see the England U19 international leave Adams Park but said the winger has all the tools needed to shine at the top level.

A deal which could bring in up to £700,000 and a sell-on fee also represents excellent business for Wycombe for a player struggling to get into their first team.

Waddock told the Examiner: "It is a fantastic opportunity for Matt and the club was never going to stand in his way.

"We are disappointed to lose him but it was a good deal for the club but also a great deal for Matt and we wish him all the best.

"He has come through the youth system and everybody has played their part in his development over the years. He is a lovely lad and we are pleased for him and his family.

"He is got everything you need to be a top player and he is a level-headed lad so I believe he will go on to be a great player in the Premier League."

Tangerines boss Ian Holloway said: "Matty has been on our radar for some time. I can't wait to get him involved in our system and to work with him on the training ground."
