Sandell: 'Practice makes perfect'

Andy Sandell

ANDY Sandell said his unstoppable weekend free-kick was the result of hours of practice on the training ground.

The left-back issued Northampton a warning when he fired a 12th minute dead ball against the post in the 1-1 draw at Sixfields on Saturday.

Six minutes before the break the 26-year-old went one better when he smashed an 18-yard free-kick into the top corner to give Wanderers the lead and score his first goal for the club since joining in the summer.

Sandell is used to being a goalscoring full-back after netting five times last season for Aldershot and said he works hard at perfecting his technique.

He said: "I practised free-kicks on Monday and Tuesday and it has come off so I am delighted. I scored a few last year and when Monday comes I will be practising again.

"As long as I keep practising and keep hitting the target, that is the main thing."

Sandell was denied being the winning goalscorer after Kevin Thornton levelled from the spot for the Cobblers with four minutes to go.

"We looked comfortable but threw it away at the end," Sandell added. "We worked very hard and we were very disappointed to come away with just a point."
