Wycombe must become ruthless, says Waddock

Gary Waddock

GARY Waddock has told his players to become more cut-throat after being punished for wasting chances in the weekend draw at Northampton.

Ben Strevens, Scott Rendell and Kevin Betsy were guilty of missing second-half goalscoring opportunities at Sixfields as Wanderers led 1-0.

They were made to pay as the Cobblers levelled with a late Kevin Thornton penalty to leave Waddock disappointed not to bag all three points.

"We got ourselves into a good position," he said. "We are disappointed but it is another point away from home.

"We have to be a bit more ruthless and clinical when the chances pop up. We have got the manpower to do that but when you have the chances you have to take them.

"If if had gone 2-0 I think we would have won the game. We have created chances and were fairly comfortable in the game and are frustrated that we haven't won it.

The draw means Wycombe remain unbeaten in their first month back in League Two with six points to their name.

Waddock admits he is happy with the start his side have made but believes Blues should have more points on the board.

He said: "We have set our standard very high so we are always looking to improve. But we should possibly have a few more points"
