Amersham Town 1-4 Harpenden Town
AMERSHAM left the pitch with a sense of encouragement rather than disappointment after this home loss.
A young Magpies side put on a stirring display against fourth-placed Harpenden on Saturday but the fourth-placed side had too much for the Division One strugglers.
An entertaining opening saw Town goalkeeper Perry Cheadle dived at the feet of Ed Frost after the Harpenden frontman had skipped past three defender.
Then both sides rattled the woodwork with the post denying Jimmy Hill for the visitors on 17 minutes before Shane Eedop struck the crossbar for the home side moments later.
It was the visitors who broke the deadlock on 42 minutes through Jack Downs and they doubled their lead ten minutes after the break when Hill rifled in from 18 yards.
Amersham responded immediately by pulling a goal back two minutes later through Kerel Derewenko’s smart lob and nearly levelled but for a fine save that denied Scott Chapman.
And Harpenden finished off the game with two goals in the final 20 minutes with strikes from Downs and Mark Hitchock.
Elsewhere, Chesham United Reserves’ home game with Tokyngton Manor was postponed.
