Amersham Town 1-2 Bedford
TORRENTIAL rain summed up Amersham Town's mood after slumping to their fifth loss in a row.
The Magpies remain one point from safety after this home defeat played out at a rain-sodden Spratley's Meadow.
But they were unlucky not to take at least a point from the game against mid-table Bedford.
However, they handed themselves an uphill task when they conceded after just five minutes when Alex Taylor collected the ball outside the penalty area and fired past Magpies stopper Perry Cheadle.
The visitors were in control and extended their lead on 18 minutes when Ian Thorne skipped past two challenges to centre for Jack Weeden to tap in.
The heavens opened at the start of the second-half but it was Amersham who adapted to the conditions better with Karol Derewenko seeing an effort deflected agonisingly wide of the post.
They did pull back a deserved goal on 74 minutes when substitute Ryan Forbes superbly volleyed in Derewemko's flick to set up a tense finish.
But Bedford held on to pile more relegation misery on Chris Martin's side.
