Magpies fall back into relegation zone

Amersham Town 1-3 Stony Stratford Town

TEN-MAN Amersham Town slipped back into the relegation zone with this disappointing home loss.

Ricci Putnam saw red in the second-half after punching an opponent to compound the Magpies’ misery.

They went behind on 23 minutes when a goalkick help up in the wind allowing Stony’s Dean Robb to rifle in the opener.

Luke Harman nearly levelled moments later but his shot was well blocked before woeful set-piece defending saw Amersham go 2-0 down five minutes before the break when Robb was left unmarked to convert a corner.

Putnam was given his marching orders on 53 minutes but Amersham did pull a goal back two minutes later when Karol Derewenko smashed in from close range.

Stony’s numerical advantage disappeared when a defender saw red for hauling back Adam Clarke but the visitors made the game safe in stoppage time thanks to a Josh Crawley header.
