Brave Magpies resistance fails to halt Langley

Kings Langley 2-0 Amersham Town

AMERSHAM Town battled bravely at promotion-chasing Kings Langley but still slumped to their fifth league loss in a row on Tuesday night.

After conceding 18 goals in that run, the Magpies looked intent on keeping things tighter and had success in the opening 15 minutes and they carved out the first chance when Adam Clarke turned in the box but saw his low shot saved.

The home side took the lead, however, on 25 minutes when Craig Lynskey raced onto a through ball and slid his shot past onrushing Town stopper Perry Cheadle to net.

Langley goalkeeper Ross Langley nearly cost his side when he picked up a backpass yards from goal but Martin Griggs saw the resulting close-range free-kick blocked by a sea of bodies.

They were made to pay on 54 minutes when home midfielder Chris Mason curled in a superb free-kick to put his side in command.

In the end, a string of saves from Cheadle kept the score down as Amersham failed to find a response.
