AMERSHAM Town gave Premier League Broxbourne Borough a scare before going out of the Challenge Trophy in the second round.
The Magpies were vastly improved from their weekend defeat in the Berks & Bucks Cup and took the lead after just two minutes against Borough on Tuesday night.
A loose ball was pounced on by Ben Purcell who fed Anton Bradley to race through and rifle a 20-yard drive into the bottom corner.
Amersham had chances to extend their lead before Broxbourne levelled six minutes before the break through Chris Doyle.
Chris Martin's side regained their lead on 56 minutes when Bradley again tormented the visiting defence and finished smartly but their higher-division opponents hit back again through Dean Williams with 15 minutes to play.
Extra-time beckoned and Broxbourne stepped up a gear and powered to a 4-2 win thanks to goals from Gabriel Akuwudike and Williams.
Amersham will hope to build on this performance when they take on Sun Postal Sports at Spratleys Meadow on Saturday.
