Waddock unconcerned by Sandell claims

Andy Sandell

GARY Waddock said he wishes Andy Sandell well in his bid to forge a career as a striker at Forest Green.

The left-back made a three-month loan switch to the Conference side last week before making some interesting comments about his time at Wanderers.

Despite playing as a defender for the past four seasons, Sandell said he was 'fed up travelling to Wycombe and playing left-back' and wanted to play as a striker.

He got his wish in their 2-0 defeat at Hayes and Yeading in midweek and also added: “I had fallen out of love with the game but I intend to get that love back with Forest Green and enjoy myself again.”

Blues boss Gary Waddock has read Sandell's comments but refused to get drawn too much on what he had to say.

He said: “Sands had an injury and then we brought Grant Basey on loan from Peterborough. I had a chat with him and it was decided he would go out on loan.

He played as a centre-forward earlier in his career but for the last four years with me he has played as a left-back. If he wants to go to Forest Green and play as a forward then we wish him good luck.”
