Shoppers can vote for their favourite businesses again

SHOPPERS will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite businesses when a group launches its awards next week.

Campaign group Better Chesham will launch its second Retail and Hospitality Awards on Wednesday, July 4 at the George and Dragon, in High Street, Chesham.

This year the awards has a new category titled Best Market Stall, which will be picked by the judges due to the majority of the stalls not having a name.

The judges will be able to pick a stall from the weekly Wednesday and Saturday markets or from the monthly local produce market.

However, people will still be able to vote for their favourite shops, pubs, restaurants and cafés in the retail and hospitality categories.

Co-founder of Better Chesham, Mick Carling, said: “I’m really looking forward to this as the first year was so successful. I’m really delighted to have the Examiner on board as our media partner.

“I think the high street needs the awards and we need to be supporting our high street as much as we always have. It’s been pretty miserable for the high street with the weather and the water works really affected trade. Hopefully this will give a little boost for the summer and get people passionate about the shops again.”

Businesses and traders are invited to the awards launch, which starts at 6pm. Last year the group received more than 900 votes for the awards but it is hoping to top that this year.

Last year, the George and Dragon pub was named Hospitality Outlet of the Year and The Gift Shop, in High Street, was picked as the Retail Outlet of the Year.
