A SCHOOL is celebrating after being invited to take part in the Olympics opening ceremony.
Little Spring School, in Greenway, Chesham, is one of 250 schools invited in the UK to form the Guard of Honour for competing athletes as they make their way into the Olympic stadium for the opening ceremony on July 27.
Eight pupils and two staff members from the school will attend the event where they will support the athletes of Samoa, which the children have been learning about.
Headteacher Mary Paton said: “We’re really excited, it’s great. We just applied and we got it.
"We will design our own banner and hold lanterns, shouting cheers of support as the athletes make their way from the Athletes Village into the Olympic Stadium for the opening ceremony.”
