THE thrilling sight and sound of a Spitfire flypast proved to be one of many highlights as hundreds gathered for a community fete on Saturday (May 12).

Hyde Heath Common was filled with people from the village and the surrounding area on a sun-soaked day featuring a host of activities.

Chris Sargeant, from Westfield in Hyde Heath, was responsible for announcing all the events on the day.

He said: "I thought it went absolutely brilliantly, the flypast was terrific, there was a great atmosphere and the weather was wonderful.

"The dog show and the classic cars also proved very popular and everyone seemed to have a great time."

He added: "It's the first time Ralph Bartlett and Sarah Hortop had organised the event - as David Coulton has done it for the last 22 years - and I thought they did a great job."
