A CHESHAM outreach worker is surprised how quickly the time has gone after being given a long service award by Bucks County Council.

Senior day opportunity worker John Dietsch has been working from the Endeavour Centre for 25 years and was one of 26 staff honoured by BCC chairman Mike Colston earlier this month.

After receiving a certificate for his his efforts at Judges' Lodgings in Aylesbury, the 60 year old said: "Times passes so quickly! The job is about caring for vulnerable people, I started off working with people and animals and I've always loved it.

"It's about working with people and watching them grow - I work with the disabled and those with learning difficulties and I help develop their independence and social skills.

"The service is developing and changing so who know what the future holds and how it will work out, I am looking towards retirement though."

Mr Colston said: "These colleagues have shown great devotion to the residents of Buckinghamshire, and I feel extremely proud of them."

Head teacher at Kingshill Church of England Combined School, Roger Dodds, was also among those commended.
