Crash victim Elaine's dad backs our campaign to keep the lights burning

THE father of a young woman who was killed in a car accident on the unlit A413 has backed our campaign.

Elaine Stacey, 23, died on the stretch between Chalfont St Peter and Denham in March 2010.

Her car collided with another, which had lost control after its driver did not see water that had gathered on the road.

At the inquest into Miss Stacey's death, coroner Richard Hulett said: "It is a fact that it is easier to see when lights are on. That is not a political statement, it is fact."

Miss Stacey's father Ray, has spoken about our new campaign to keep street lights on.

"It's a great idea, and I think as many people as possible should get behind it.

"I hope Buckinghamshire County Council (BCC) gets the message, and keep the lights on.

"They haven't listened to the public in the past, and people have been saying for a long time that the roads are already too dark.

"A lot of the roads in Buckinghamshire are dangerous and difficult to drive on as it is, so it is complete madness to switch off more lights.

"BCC has a history of not listening to what people want, but I would urge as many people as possible to respond to the consultation to let the council know exactly what they think," he said.

"Then, hopefully, we will see more accidents and deaths being avoided."
