I read with interest the article following the AGM of Gerrards Cross Parish Council last week and feel I must add a few pertinent points.
Firstly I was in communication with Sue Madden of Tesco last year whilst trying to negotiate the clearing and restoration of Latchmore Pond and at no time was I told by Tesco that I could not make an application from the Tesco fund.
Indeed I did make enquiries to Tesco to ascertain whether there were any stipulations on the fund. The parish council themselves told me I could make an application which I did do but was turned down! Secondly if anyone can find more than half a dozen ducks on Latchmore Pond at the moment they have better eyesight than me.
The coots and moor hens have also deserted us. The nonsense about adding tap water to the pond via the mechanism supplied courtesy of the then water company being detrimental to plant life etc. was repudiated by English Nature and indeed I have their letter to that effect. The reason Latchmore and New ponds are in such a sorry state is simply due to neglect and apathy on behalf of the parish council.
I wonder where the recent annual budget allocations for the ponds has been spent; certainly not on the ponds. Who else apart from me thinks the blue pod shelter costing £8,000 from the Tesco fund and placed on East Common is nothing but an utter waste of money!
