Letters: HS2 will be a disgusting waste

I AM appalled by the proposal to build the High Speed Two (HS2) line from London to Birmingham, and then to Manchester and Leeds.

The cost of £34billion could be better spent on the health service, social care, education, policing and homeland security.

Our armed forces are serving heroically in Afghanistan, only to be threatened with the sack on their return.

HS2 would be a disaster to wildlife, and would not be 'an opportunity to enhance biodiversity'. Nor would it provide a green corridor, as stated in the so-called HS2 Consultation Document - the Chilterns are already green, unlike the HS2 trains.
