ECSTATIC pupils filled Chesham Grammar School this morning after 100 per cent achieved grades A* to C including English and maths.
The school, in White Hill, has seen another record breaking year after 121 of its pupils achieved five or more A* or A grades.
Delighted Sam Watts, 16, of Berkhamsted, opened his envelope to discover nine A*s, two As and a B. He said: "I'm a bit disappointed a did not beat my sister but I'm glad I beat my brother! I'm a bit disappointed with one or two but I'm feeling good overall."
One of Sam's A*s was in latin, which is a subject he taught himself from a textbook his mother bought him last year. The school does not currently teach the subject but Sam alongside a teacher at the school has set up a latin club. He added: "It was not without ridicule from my friends! I'm hoping it will catch on."
Laura Hendy, 16, of Bovingdon, was over the moon with her nine A*s and three As. She said: "I'm feeling relieved. I did better than I thought, I did not really know what to expect. I worked ridiculously hard, I did not really have a life for years!"
Pleased Niluka Kavanagh, 16, of Darvell Drive, Chesham, got eight A*s and four As. She said: "I'm feeling happy, especially with maths. My mum is a maths teacher so I really wanted an A* so I worked so hard for that so I did not want to get an A. My mum helped me so much and she is so pleased. I'm going to go into London to celebrate."
Ben Standish, 16, was chuffed with his 10 A*s and A. He said: "I'm very pleased. I did better than I expected. I worked hard but it has paid off today."
Headmaster Philip Wayne said: "I'm delighted with this year's GCSE results. We obviously expect our students to attain excellent results and they have. The A*/A rate of 60 per cent is a fine achievement and is due reward for the hard work of staff and pupils."
