Feb 10 2011 Buckinghamshire Advertiser
THE consultation on Bucks County Council's proposed budget cuts is now over, and it is up to County Hall chiefs to listen to the voters.
The Advertiser and Examiner have run a campaign imploring the council to keep street lights switched on, and we have been overwhelmed by the support from readers. It is now time for the council also to listen to what the people want.
As far as they are concerned, too many street lights are already switched off, and turning off more would be a reckless disregard for public safety. Yet this is what has been suggested, and that is why it was so important to make your views known to BCC during the consultation period.
The chance to speak up is over, and the time for discussion and debate at the council has begun.
BCC now faces a critical time. Will it plough on with its proposed plans, regardless of the feedback it has received, or will it show that it listens to what people are saying?
Thousands across the county await the decision with bated breath. We thank you for your support.
