Oct 7 2010 Buckinghamshire Examiner
THE Examiner was compelled to launch its Jen's Final Wish campaign after meeting the family of Jen Goodridge, who died recently from cervical cancer.
As your local newspaper, we feel duty-bound to do what we can to raise the profile of this terrible disease. And as Jen's mother says this week, if just one life can be saved, Jen did not die in vain.
We must applaud this brave family for having the courage and the drive to speak publicly about their grief at this difficult time. They want to help because this is what Jen wanted, they want to make her final wish come true.
By either providing consent for your daughter to undertake the vaccination programme or, for older women, taking up the invitation to go for a screening test, you are greatly reducing the chances of your child or yourself contracting cervical cancer in the future.
We understand there are a lot of concerns with regard to vaccinations and tests, particularly with children, and that is why we sought out expert medical advice before undertaking this campaign.
We hope our experts put your mind at rest and help you make the right decision for your daughter. As Jen said - don't let her death be in vain.
