HUGE congratulations are due to students across the county for their fantastic results in this year's A-levels and GCSEs.
Going to school to pick up the results that help decide your future is one of the most nerve wracking moments in any young person's life, so it must be a huge relief for all involved that the big day is finally over.
As a county, we should be proud at the consistent high scores our students achieve year in, year out. It is a reflection of the hard work and dedication they have put into their studies, and they should feel pleased and proud.
There are always those who devalue these achievements by complaining that exams are easier today than they were 30 or 40 years ago, but youngsters should not let this detract from their joy. If you work hard, you get good results, and this has been the case in any era.
The students have all given themselves an excellent chance of success, and their schools deserve credit for their part. We wish them the best of luck in whatever the next stage of their lives brings.
