SURPRISE-PACKAGE Stevenage powered into the play-offs on Boxing Day with a thumping win over Colchester.
Wycombe fans would normally enjoy seeing their derby rivals suffer a 6-1 home loss but with Stevenage arriving at Adams Park on Saturday it was an eye-catching result.
Graham Westley's side are not winning many friends in the division with their no-nonsense, physical style of play but it is effective.
The unity of keeping last season's play-off winning squad together has paid off and only Sheffield United and Brentford have conceded less than the nine goals Stevenage have shipped on their travels in League One.
A point at Preston and home wins over Sheffield United, Charlton and Sheffield Wednesday mean they are a dangerous side and their 12-game unbeaten run means they arrive at Wanderers full of confidence.
As will striker Chris Beardsley with the 27-year-old having netted nine times this season and having scored four in four games.
But Stevenage's strength has been their ability to net all over the pitch with defensive pair Scott Laird and Mark Roberts' 10 goals between them this season a key example of just that.
