ANYONE who saw Chesterfield dismantle Wycombe at the b2net Stadium in March will surely be surprised to see them rock-bottom of League One.
The Spirerites played a slick, attacking brand of football in a 4-1 win that night and went on to finish as League Two champions and an outside bet for success back in the third tier.
Instead, they have struggled for any kind of form and are joint bottom with Wanderers – with only two goals separating the two sides.
Under-pressure boss John Sheridan and his players received a confidence boost on Tuesday night when they beat Preston on penalties to book a spot in the Johnstone's Paint Northern Area Final.
But their league record on the road makes miserable reading for Chesterfield fans.
Just one win in nine games and 23 goals conceded – the highest in the division. While you have to go back to September 17 and to find their last league win – a 4-1 victory over Carlisle.
Their poor run on their travels equally be compared with Wycombe's woeful home record of just one win and eight goals scored – the second lowest in the division.
So with precious points at grabs it is sure to be a tight, tense affair.
